Speakers Bio

Robert Cook: Robert Cook, managing partner of Hudson Cook, LLP, has practiced in the area of Consumer Financial Services and Small Business Financing throughout his career and is experienced in all areas of this practice. He represents nationwide lenders and investors in establishing new programs and products, conducting due diligence and compliance reviews of consumer lending portfolios, merchant cash advance practices, and other types of small business financing. He also advises with regard to class action lawsuits based on alleged violations of consumer protection statutes.

Robert is a member of the American Financial Services Association Law Committee where he serves as Counsel to the Mortgage Subcommittee, has served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board Consumer Advisory Counsel and was the Chairman of its Consumer Credit Committee. He is a past chairman of the Truth in Lending Subcommittee of the American Bar Association Consumer Financial Services Committee, and the co-editor of the book Truth in Lending, published by the American Bar Association. He also is a founding member of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers and a member of the Conference on Consumer Finance Law. In 2009 Robert received the American Financial Services Association Distinguished Service Award.

Robert is a founding member of the, LLC, which publishes HouseLaw®, a monthly Internet publication of recent developments in real estate finance that covers legislative, regulatory and case law developments at the federal level and in all 50 states, and theCounselorLibrary® state law databases, a series of interactive databases of state lending laws.

Robert is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center (J.D. 1981) and Washington and Lee University (B.A. 1975).

Margie Corwin:   

Margie is a member of Gordon Feinblatt's Financial Services and Government Relations Group.   Margie’s practice focuses on regulated financial services with an emphasis on consumer credit and residential lending and brokering. Margie is widely respected for her extensive knowledge of federal and state mortgage banking and mortgage brokering issues.  Most recently, Margie co-authored "A Survey of Maryland Laws Relating to Extending Credit & Consumer Financial Services." Margie also is a significant contributor to the Firm's eNewsletter, "Maryland Legal Alert," for the financial services industry.  She is a frequent lecturer on the topics of Truth in Lending, Real Estate Settlement Procedures, Fair Credit Reporting, Equal Credit Opportunity, Maryland Mortgage Lending and Brokering, Maryland Credit Laws, and Litigation in Consumer Finance.  In addition, Margie advises banks and other depository institutions on a wide range of issues relating to deposits including check fraud, deposit account agreements, expedited funds availability, and attachments, liens, and levies. She has presented lectures on Uniform Commercial Code Articles 3 and 4, Check Fraud, Fiduciary Issues for Deposit Accounts, and Litigation regarding Garnishments, Liens and Levies.
